The TSSAA has placed the Pickett County High School football team on two years of probation.
The punishment the result of an incident that happened during the August 25th game against Zion Christian. Officials said the incident involved a Pickett County coach, a Pickett County player, and that player’s mother.
According to a press release, an unsportsmanlike penalty was called on the player after an altercation occurred between a coach and the player. Eventually the player’s mother made her way to the field and also got involved in an altercation with the coach.
The release stated that an off duty state trooper eventually escorted the mother and the player from the field of play.
As a result of the incident, both the player and mother will be banned from TSSAA sponsored events for the remainder of the year. Pickett County Coach O.B Caudle will be suspended one game for failure to maintain control of the team. Two other players also face a one to three game suspension for getting involved in the altercation.
Although on two years probation, the team will be allowed to participate in postseason contests.
