CWS Foundation Awards $5,000 In Grants To Schools

The Campbell, Stone, and Wood Charitable Foundation has awarded a $5,000 grant to 21 Cumberland County school clubs and classrooms.

Doctor Robert H. Wood said he started the foundation two years ago through an endowment fund after having concerns about education in the county.

“I thought about how unhappy our teachers seem to be and what we can do to help them,” Wood said. “Good teachers spend so much time and money of their own to encourage their students. I’m also concerned that a lot of students cannot afford the extra fees to do the extra-curricular activities such as buying uniforms or band instruments.”

Over the past two years the community has provided $24,500 to school clubs and classrooms through the CWS Foundation.

The last $5,000 grant was divided up between the 21 schools clubs and classrooms. The funding will be used for things like literacy programs, school sports teams, musical departments and classroom supplies.
