A planned immigration forum in McMinnville has taken on new significance after President Donald Trump announced the end of the DACA program Tuesday.
Ignite For Progress founder Dana Mullican said the group planned the immigration forum a month ago.
“A member knew of a lady in Nashville and contacted her and said she’d come educate us, this is not a protest, nothing like that, this is just to educate each other about immigration issues,” Mullican said.
The group plans to answer questions for native citizens and have immigration information available for those from other countries. Conexion Americas Nashville Associate Director of Migrant Education Programs Denise Rocha will be the guest speaker.
“What are some misconceptions about what immigrants do and do not do, what are the facts? With this new possible repeal of DACA, that wasn’t even on the horizon when we wanted to hold this meeting so that’s a new issue that has come to the forefront,” Mullican said.
The meeting will take place at 7 p.m. Thursday at the McMinnville First United Methodist Church outreach building. Mullican said everyone in the Upper Cumberland is invited.
