Work continues on the Mine Lick Creek interchange project.
The cooperative project includes a new I-40 interchange being constructed by TDOT and a road extension built by the city of Cookeville.
TDOT spokesman Jennifer Flynn said the project was originally supposed to complete in October, but a construction delay pushed completion back to April.
“That’s why the contractor has been granted a time extension because it was circumstances beyond his control. Twin Lakes asked for the changes and once the request was approved and materials ordered there was a delay from the suppliers and it caused a delay in the overall project,” Flynn said.
Twin Lakes is running utility lines alongside the new interchange.
Even with the delay, some parts of the project are progressing, Flynn said.
“They’ll be working, they’ve been working putting shoulder stone and asphalt on Bennett Road and the eastbound ramps should be open shortly after Labor Day,” Flynn said.
Flynn said the new interchange will cost a little over $23 million.
