With last year’s droughts and wildfires in mind, the state Department of Forestry plans for a more calm fall season.
Forester Jim Dale said fall is usually dry throughout Tennessee but the projections for this year are good.
“The forecast, at least what we’ve been told is that we might be looking at a wetter than normal fall, which is good for us,” Dale said.
Last year, dry conditions caused a dangerous fall wildfire season. Thousands of acres burned and crews were flown in from other parts of the country to fight the blazes.
“The seasonal drought outlook through the end of November looks pretty good for our area,” Dale said.
No matter the weather, state law says residents must have a permit to burn beginning October 15.
