Safety Grant Recipients Announced Wednesday

Safety agencies from across the Upper Cumberland will receive $3 million in grants Wednesday.

The grants will be awarded at a ceremony at noon Wednesday at the Crossville Memorial Airport.

The money comes from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It goes to the state Highway Safety Office, which gives it to groups trying to make the roads safer.

Each year, a variety of groups apply for the grants, from District Attorney’s offices to non-profit organizations. Reducing traffic crashes, injuries and fatalities is the goal.

The grant funds pay for everything from classes for drivers to specialized DUI prosecutors.
