Monterey Lions Want To Rebuild And Rescue

Friday, the Monterey Lions Club Disaster Response Team deployed to Texas, intending to help rebuild and deter looting. Director Ken Hall said the catastrophic flooding left the group with a changed mission and a new need.

“At some point in time in the future, I would love for this disaster team to be able to do water rescues. It’s more and more common now, we’ve done rescues before but that wasn’t our goal, it just happened we were there when someone needs pulling out,” Hall said.

The group began in Corpus Christie this weekend, then was called to Houston. Hall said a small boat, even one without a motor, would help the group find survivors and bring them to safety in these situations.

Hall hopes a second group of volunteers will travel to Houston to help with recovery efforts. To volunteer, contact Hall through the group’s Facebook page or call him at 931-239-3318.

To donate money to support the group’s efforts, drop it off or mail it to the Montery Depot, 1 East Depot St., Monterey.
