A multi-county manhunt ended in White County Thursday evening.
White County Sheriff’s Det. Chris Isom said Goodlettsville Police contacted the department to locate Sterling Carter, 51. Carter is accused of raping an 11 year old girl Sunday at a church in Goodlettsville.
Goodlettsville Police pinged Carter’s cell phone and saw it was located near Virgin Falls, in the Bridgestone Wilderness Area of White County.
“Technically had officers in two different areas, obviously searching for one guy, that we were told had a weapon and was suicidal and we were being told he had certain woods experience,” Isom said.
Six deputies entered the wilderness area based on the coordinates Goodlettsville sent, located Carter and arrested him without incident, Isom said.
“So it was taxing there for awhile but we did find him, we did get him out of the woods safe, he was safe, we were safe, it worked out the best you could ask for,” Isom said.
Isom said Carter did have a loaded semi-automatic handgun with him at the time of his arrest.
The Goodlettsville Police will handle the rest of the investigation, Carter said.
