Emergency officials hope today’s eclipse will go off without a hitch.
Putnam County Sheriff Eddie Farris said slowing down behind the wheel is key.
“With increased visitors come increased traffic, we encourage all residents and visitors to make a plan for the day and try to stay off the roads as much as possible, if one must venture out, please plan on extra travel time and remember to follow the rules of the road. No eclipse is worth having an accident,” Farris said.
Law enforcement’s primary worry is accidents, he said. Various agencies have warned folks for weeks not to pull over to the side of the road to watch the eclipse. They’ve also been working together to make sure every possible emergency is covered.
“We all have been working together and I see no issues at all, we just want to make sure we’re here for the citizens and our biggest priority that we’re concerned with, with all the increase in traffic is some fender-benders, some wrecks, accidents and so on, we certainly want to keep those at a minimum and respond real quickly if it does happen,” Farris said.
The eclipse will begin this afternoon at about 1:30 p.m.
