The Tennessee Tech Board of Trustees approved several measures relating to the office of the university’s president. The measures will apply to President Phil Oldham.
They include an evaluation method board ChairmanTom Jones said he believes the board needs to try.
“As I said, it’s a lot of back and forth and a lot of moving parts, it scares me a little bit, but I think we need to go through it this year, next year if we decide it’s too cumbersome and we need to streamline it a little bit, we can change it, but this is a starting point,” Jones said.
The evaluation method includes the president and the board setting goals, the president’s self-assessment, the comments from the board’s executive committee and the full board. Faculty may submit confidential evaluations which will be considered as well.
The board also voted to allow the executive committee to work with Oldham to create a contract. At this time, he’s one of about 15 percent of university presidents nationwide who don’t have a contract.
They’ll present the contract to the full board at the December meeting.
