One man was shot on Cookeville’s Scenic Drive Thursday afternoon.
The shooting was reported shortly after 2 p.m.
Cookeville Police Major Carl Sells said a 39-year-old man was shot. His condition and identity have not been released.
Sells said police are searching for the suspect and processing the scene, and the public is safe.
“We do not have the shooter in custody yet, but we don’t believe this shooting was a random act, therefore we don’t believe there’s any danger to the public per se, other than we don’t have the shooter in custody yet,” Sells said.
Traffic on Jefferson Avenue and Interstate Drive was significantly slowed Thursday afternoon as law enforcement patrolled, searching for the suspect.
“We’re also still working the scene itself, as you can imagine anytime there’s a crime of this significance, we want to investigate it thoroughly and we may need to be on scene for hours,” Sells said.
Sells said if you live in the area or are traveling through and see something unusual, report it to the police.
