Tuesday’s first full day of school will bring standard school traffic back to Putnam County.
Cookeville Police Major Carl Sells said all drivers should be aware of school traffic and take precautions.
“The parents and those that are transporting the children need to be aware of the increase in traffic, they need to be focused on the task of driving as do all the drivers,” Sells said.
Paying attention to your surroundings and keeping your speed below the limit are important things, Sells said.
“We have several schools within the city limits and they’re all in residential neighborhoods primarily, so we’re going to have a lot of pedestrians and a lot of those pedestrians are school children,” Sells said.
While there will be a lot of traffic in the early morning, Sells said the after-school traffic is significant as well.
