TTU’s 2nd Annual Cybersecurity Boot Camp Coming Up

Cybersecurity students from around the country will visit Tennessee Tech in August for a unique program.

Eric Brown serves as assistant director of Tennessee Tech’s Cybersecurity Education Research and Outreach Center.

He said all the students are college freshmen and have received the CyberCorps Scholarship For Service.

“It’s an awesome opportunity for these kids, this is the only boot camp of it’s type in the nation regarding the CyberCorps program, we were the first to do it last year and as far as I know we’re the only ones doing it,” Brown said.

Brown said the program was created by Ambereen Siraj, director of TTU’s Cybersecurity Education Research and Outreach Center. Participants will learn about things they won’t necessarily learn in classrooms, like security clearance and dining etiquette.

“So we did our first one last year, as I recall we had roughly 48-49 participants from across the nation, it was very successful, we got a lot of positive feedback from it and we are doing our second one this year,” Brown said.

This year, 42 students from all around the country, including Puerto Rico, will attend the boot camp. Brown said he hopes the program will continue for years to come.
