Nabors On Fees: Complain To Gov. Haslam

Putnam County Clerk Wayne Nabors said he’s just the messenger and collector when it comes to the IMPROVE Act fees.

Nabors said some Putnam County residents have been angry at the fees. And he’s urging them to take it up with Gov. Bill Haslam.

“I’ve literally said ‘this was Gov. Haslam’s bill’ and I have his office number, we’ve given it out and told people to call his office and register their complaints,” Nabors said.

Nabors said he’s put notices on each station in the clerk’s office. The IMPROVE Act went into effect July 1, adding 4 cents to the gas tax this year and at least $5 to vehicle license fees. That brings the total registration fee for Putnam County citizens to $29.
