Rescue squads from multiple Upper Cumberland counties have rescued donzens of people from Cummins Falls.
Officials say a 73-year-old woman remains missing.
Crews responded to the Cummins Falls Wednesday afternoon after about 40 people became stranded at the falls when flash flooding hit following a heavy downpour.
Jackson County E 911 Director Michael Smith said 27 people were stranded at the falls area, three on a small island and 10 downstream.
Smith said a number of people were picked up from the water by a Tennessee Highway Patrol helicopter.
Officials have called off the search for the missing 73-year-old woman. Search efforts are expected to begin again Thursday morning.
No serious injuries we’re immediately reported.
