The Putnam County Board of Education approved a third draft of its budget Thursday. That budget still has a $3.89 million hole.
Board member Lynn McHenry said they’re waiting on the county commission.
“We’re just approving a budget basically that we’ve already approved two times before so we’re still sticking with that until we know different from the commission,” McHenry said.
Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said the third draft of the budget still has a 4% raise for staff in it.
“If we can maintain the school system without going backward in services and quality then those are the things we can identify. Certainly we want to, if we can, to me a priority is the raise, it may not be realistic that we can hold on to a 4% raise,” Boyd said.
Boyd said his staff has run every possible budget scenario and is working on different options to make cuts so the board can have a balanced budget.
