The Putnam County Board of Education moving forward on a site in southern Cookeville for a potential elementary school.
The 45-acre property is on Lee Seminary Road, near the Highlands Business Park.
The board authorized Director of Schools Jerry Boyd to start the process to see if it would be a good site to build.
“Option would be, of course, for us to have a 90 day window for core drilling and testing, evaluate the site, then go to the next phase if that were the case and we identified it as a suitable site for potential construction of a school, then we would be moving forward and talking about finalizing purchase of the property,” Boyd said.
Originally, the board had talked about selling the current Park View Elementary property to the city of Cookeville. The city has moved forward with testing on a different property to build a new police station.
