If you’re looking to shoot off fireworks in Gainesboro this 4th of July, you’re out of luck.
The town’s board of Mayor and Aldermen adopted an ordinance in 1953 banning fireworks inside the city limits. Police Chief Rick Larnerd said his officers will be enforcing the ordinance over the 4th of July holiday.
“It certainly is not our intent to ruin anyone’s patriotic spirit, however, there’s still an ordinance in place and we can’t pick and choose the ordinances we want to ignore or enforce,” Larnerd said. “If we see it or if we get a complaint about it we will have to take whatever enforcement action is necessary at the time.”
Larnerd said the ordinance only applies to residents living inside the corporate city limits of Gainesboro and that county residents are allowed to shoot off fireworks.
