TTU Officials Watching Travel Ban Closely

Several Tennessee Tech students may be impacted by President Trump’s travel ban.

The United States Supreme Court reinstated the majority of the ban Monday. Individuals from Iran, Libya, Somalia, Sudan, Syria, and Yemen can only enter the country if they have a relationship with an American entity. That includes students accepted to American universities or employees of American businesses.

In a written statement Monday, TTU officials said one undergraduate student and several graduate students from those countries have been enrolled this fall. Tech is watching the situation closely and recommends students from those countries contact U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the U.S. Consulate, or a licensed immigration attorney before leaving the United States or if currently abroad.

“Dr. Mark Stephens, Tech’s senior associate provost who oversees international education, serves as the university’s point person, to monitor developments, and to provide support, wherever possible, to students, faculty and staff.

We know that people from around the world have chosen to come to Tech and have enriched our university by the diversity they bring.

As with all of our students, faculty and staff, their wellbeing remains our foremost concern.”
