Cookeville Woman Dies In Sunday Morning Fire

A Sunday morning fire has claimed the life of a Cookeville woman.

Cookeville Fire Department officials said the fire broke out shortly before 8:30 a.m. on Windsor Street.

Fire Chief Daryl Blair said the first team to arrive on scene found smoke and fire inside the kitchen area.

“The second team that came in behind them was responsible for search and rescue,” Blair said. “When they entered the home that’s when we found a victim in the house. Nothing appears to be suspicious at this time, but the body has been sent to Nashville for an autopsy.”

Authorities have identified the body as 83-year-old Ruth Allison.

Blair said the fire appeared to be accidental, but an investigation will continue.
