Gov. Bill Haslam signed revisions to the Chiropractic Practice Act into law Wednesday.
Rep. Ryan Williams sponsored the bill, which was endorsed by Cookeville chiropractors.
The bill revised the way chiropractors practice their profession. It included a measure curbing the prescription of opioids.
“Anytime we can offer some kind of medical treatment or care to individuals other than prescribing them some very addictive opioids, I think we’re doing them and our communities a great favor,” Williams said.
The state of Ohio recently filed suit against major pharmaceutical companies regarding opioids. Williams hopes to introduce a resolution in the General Assembly soon allowing Tennessee to file a similar suit.
