Grant Money Impacting Van Buren County

Grant money may have a serious impact on Van Buren County in the coming months.

County Mayor Greg Wilson said they’ve been awarded some $900,000 in grant funding for various projects.

First is the county’s first park, paid for by a $440,000 TDEC grant. There’s also a tourism grant for gazebos and an information center in the Burritt College area, an asset-based enhancement grant to build a farmer’s market building, and health department grants for walking tracks at the county’s community centers.

“We’re trying to get people out and use the walking tracks, it also attracts people as well, so they’ll attract people to certain areas and they’ll spend money in the county, which is what we ultimately want,” Wilson said.

Work on the county’s park should begin within 2 weeks.
