Van Buren Park Work Moving Forward

Work on Van Buren County’s first park is progressing.

County Mayor Greg Wilson said the park will be located in the Burritt College area of Spencer, near the county fair grounds.

“We have put out for bid and bid out the first phase of it, I guess you could say, is the stage. We’re going to have a very large entertainment stage and construction should start on that in about a week,” Wilson said.

When it’s complete, the park will include a stage, pavilion, walking trails, lighting, volleyball and horseshoe pits, and a cornhole area.

“We hope to have everything done for this stage of the park, or I should say this grant that we currently have with TDEC by this time next year,” Wilson said.

Last fall, Van Buren County received a TDEC grant for $440,000. The city of Spencer has parks, but this will be the first county-owned park.
