Overton County Executive Ben Danner said an announcement on a new business at the old Volunteer Foam building may come this summer.
“We come up with an opportunity to purchase the old Volunteer Foam building, it’s been empty, I guess five years now, Volunteer Foam moved out, went to East Tennessee, we’re always looking at bringing jobs into Overton County,” Danner said.
The county commission donated about $300,000 to the county’s Industrial Development Board, which purchased the building. Danner said the board is in talks with an unnamed company that wants to expand there. That could bring up to 40 new jobs to start, with a more later, Danner said.
That isn’t the only economic development going on in Overton County, Danner said.
“We’ve got 2 or 3 other companies looking at buildings we’ve got and properties so I think it’s a good move for the county and the county commission unanimously approved it, just hope we can get enough people to work on it because we’ve got 2-3 companies already in Overton county and they’re all expanding and looking to hire, I just hope we can get enough people to work in those jobs,” Danner said.
Danner said county officials are also in discussions with a company regarding a property in Rickman.
