Cookeville Man Charged With Attempted First-Degree Murder

Putnam County authorities have charged a Cookeville man with attempted first-degree murder.

18-year-old Austin B. Peat is under a $1,030,000 bond at the Putnam County Jail.

According to a warrant, Peat went to a residence on Ridgewood Road armed with a shotgun and threatened to kill a man.

When the male victim fled the scene, Peat allegedly fired the weapon, blowing out the rear window of the man’s SUV.

In addition to first-degree murder, Peat will also face charges of aggravated assault and vandalism.

He makes his first court appearance on July 17th.
