A new anti-scam law passed by the General Assembly this year has already gone into effect.
Sometimes, scammers send car warranty information to vehicle owners. The scam looks like it may be from the dealer or the manufacturer, but it’s not.
The new law adds the scam to the Consumer Protection Act of 1977. It adds additional punishment for violators.
The law went into effect in March, shortly after it was passed by the General Assembly and signed by Gov. Bill Haslam.
