Gov. Haslam Requests FEMA Assistance For Memorial Weekend Storms

Governor Bill Haslam has requested for federal disaster assistance for the Memorial Weekend storms.

Haslam has asked the Federal Emergency Agency for federal public assistance for 12-counties including Putnam, Smith, and Cumberland County.

Putnam County Executive Randy Porter said its a big step in the recovery process.

“If we get declared it gives us a lot of FEMA money coming back to help fix all the repairs to the county and different utility services,” Porter said.

Porter said approval of the disaster assistance request should come within the next two to three weeks.

The recent storm caused more than $200,000 in damage in Putnam County.

FEMA assessments determined damages to statewide utilities totaled $15.9 million. Estimates for emergency work in communities totaled $14.6 million.
