Officials Meet To Make School Safety Plans

Even though school’s out for the summer, officials spent Tuesday morning working on improved safety plans for next year.

A host of officials attended the school safety meeting, including emergency management, 911, police, and THP.

Putnam County Schools Attendance Supervisor Corby King said every possible incident at a school planned out. That includes going through various drills with students, from weather drills to intruder drills.

“The better we practice we get to where it’s kind of second nature to us, we hope when the situation arises it helps reduce the panic so that the drill instills a kind of second nature and we move right into the action phase,” King said.

All the planning, drilling and record-keeping means officials, school personnel and students are prepared for any kind of event, King said.

“We feel like it is, we feel like it makes a difference, we’ve been fortunate, when we’ve had events we’ve had good responses to the schools,” King said.

The group meets regularly throughout the calendar year to discuss school safety.
