As It Gets Hot, Watch For Heat-Related Illness

As the temperature and humidity climb, being aware of heat illnesses can be vital.

Dr. Lisa Whiteaker said keeping cool is a serious matter.

“Heat-related illness is another potential killer, especially people who are elderly or the young or people with health issues or are on medications that make them vulnerable to those conditions,” Whiteaker said.

If you can, stay in air conditioning, out of direct sunlight and make sure to eat and drink enough, she said.

“You know staying hydrated, you really don’t want to become thirsty, you want to drink sufficient fluids that you aren’t waiting until you’re thirsty,” Whiteaker said.

When it gets hot, check in on your friends, family and neighbors to make sure everyone is staying safe, Whiteaker said.
