Putnam County Democrat Party leaders called on three elected officials to resign Wednesday.
Trustee Freddy Nelson, Road Supervisor Randy Jones and Register of Deeds Harold Burris all switched from the Democrat party to the Republican party Tuesday.
In a written statement, Putnam County Democrat Chairman Amos Powers called for their resignation and alleged the three had mislead voters when they ran for their offices in 2014.
Powers’ statement in full:
“As head of the Putnam County Democratic Party, I along with my elected officers and Executive Committee, request that these men resign from their Democratic elected positions, and run for their offices as a Republican; by switching parties during their terms, they have misled the voters who elected them as Democrats. I find it ironic that they see, with a year left in office, they have issues with stances on the national level of the Democratic Party of which were the same in the 2014 election. The Democratic Party is the big tent party because we welcome, everyone, and we all do not agree on every issue. Plus,I ask why would these intelligent, good men want to be part of a party headed by a President who has no regard for law and order and who has continually put America’s security at risk, plus continually put down people from all walks of life.”
