Kids Fishing Derby Saturday At Cane Creek Park

The Tennessee Tech Student Fishing Association hopes to get kids hooked on fishing this weekend.

The group will host the 29th annual kids’ fishing derby Saturday at Cookeville’s Cane Creek Park at the lakeview shelter.

Student Fishing Association Vice President Tyler Slagle said it will be a great time for all kids ages 15 and under.

“Pretty much just bring your kids out, we’re going to let them fish from about 8:30-10:30 a.m., the kids with the most fish and the biggest fish gets a prize, then we’ll have a raffle with some bigger prizes,” Slagle said.

The event is free, kids just need to bring their poles and some bait. Slagle said the club has a few poles and some bait for kids that don’t have one.

“Just come out we would enjoy seeing everyone out, teaching kids to fish, put worms on the hook and take fish off the hook, we’re really excited about it and we hope to get a decent crowd out there this year,” Slagle said.

The event will end by noon, he said.
