The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department’s first kids day camp will begin soon.
Deputy Kim Denson serves as the school resource officer for Jackson County High School.
She said Jackson County students ages 12-18 are welcome.
The camp is free and will take place at Jackson County High. Six one week sessions are available beginning June 12. Twenty students will be enrolled each week.
“I’ll be here, kids can come in at 7:30 a.m., lunches and afternoon snacks are provided through the Director of Schools, Mr. Barlow, and I’ll be here until 4:30 or 5 p.m. for parents to pick up their children,” Denson said.
She said practical knowledge about drugs will help kids make good choices.
“I guess the biggest reason for me doing this is instead of just telling kids ‘don’t do drugs,’ I want to show them and explain to them the future problems and why not to do drugs, that’s what I want them to get from this,” Denson said.
She said school officials asked her to create an anti-drug program. She decided the summer was the perfect time. County residents can enroll their child by contacting Denson through Facebook or the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office.
