Highway 56, which runs North and South through Gainesboro, will soon be named in memory of the late Jackson County Deputy Zach Larnerd.
His father, Gainesboro Police Chief Rick Larnerd, said State Representative John Mark Windle and Senator Paul Bailey worked with the state to get the road named in honor of Zach.
“I’m extremely proud and I’ll be very emotional when it happens,” Chief Larned said. “I’ll be able to see that each and everyday that I drive to work. It’s going to be a constant reminder of Zach and the service that he provided to this county and the City of Gainesboro. I’m so honored by this gesture.”
Zach Larnerd suffered injuries in a car crash while responding to a domestic call in January of 2015. In June of 2016 Zach passed away due to complications stemming from that crash.
The dedication ceremony will be held in mid-July to allow the state to get the signage prepared.
Just recently Zach Larnerd had his name added to the national fallen officer wall in Washington D.C.
