Former Corrections Officer Showed Other Inappropriate Conduct

Clay County Sheriff Brandon Boone said a former corrections officer was only temporarily employed by the department.

Boone said he opened an internal investigation that revealed Spencer Mason had made “lewd and inappropriate” comments to a female employee at a Clay County business while on duty and in uniform. Mason resigned in lieu of termination on March 21.

The TBI opened an investigation on Mason on March 9. Last week, Mason was arrested after the Robertson County Grand Jury indicted him on charges of official misconduct and sexual contact with an inmate. He reportedly touched a female inmate inappropriately while on the job.

Boone said Spencer Mason was hired as an uncertified deputy sheriff candidate on Jan. 30, 2017. Afterwards, complaints about his conduct began rolling in.
