NWS: Straight Line Winds Caused Cumberland, Putnam, White Damage

The National Weather Service said straight line winds are to blame for damage in Cumberland, Putnam and White counties.

The team assessed Cookeville, Lake Tansi, Doyle and Monterey. Winds in Cookeville were strongest at up to 95 mph.

NWS Meteorologist Mark Rose said the team looks at the debris left behind in the path of the storm to determine if the winds were straight line or if tornado activity was present.

Crews in many Upper Cumberland counties worked through the night and well into Sunday after severe thunderstorms ripped through the region Saturday.

No injuries were reported in the storm. Multiple drivers were trapped in cars by falling trees and several trees fell on houses and outbuildings throughout the Upper Cumberland.
