Upper Cumberland Unemployment Rate Decreases In April

The Upper Cumberland’s unemployment rate decreased more than a whole percentage point from March to April.

The region had a 5.2 percent unemployment rate in March compared to April’s rate of 4-percent.

Clay and Pickett County had the greatest decrease in unemployment with a 1.7 percent rate of change. Clay County went from a 6.5 percent unemployment rate in March to 4.8 percent in April. Pickett County’s unemployment rate dropped from 6.3 to 4.6 percent.

Putnam County’s unemployment rate decreased from 4.8 in March to 3.7 percent in April.

Jackson County had the highest unemployment rate at 5.8 percent, which is the 4th highest unemployment rate in the Volunteer State.
