15 North Carolina high school students escaped injuries yesterday when their charter bus caught fire on Interstate 40 in Cumberland County.
According to officials, it happened around noon near westbound mile marker 333.
All students and teachers managed to exit the bus and a Cumberland County school bus transported them to Stone Memorial High School. From there another charter bus picked up the students and took them to Vanderbilt University where they had a scheduled visit yesterday.
An engine malfunction is being blamed for starting the fire.
