Blood Drive To Honor Vets On Memorial Day

Blood Assurance Donor Recruiter Trudy Cody said donating blood is a great way to honor America’s veterans during the Memorial Day holiday.

Cody said a Blood Assurance has scheduled a community drive from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day. It will take place in the Jefferson Avenue Church of Christ parking lot.

“Anytime you give, it’s going to help. One unit helps save 3 lives, so we’d just like to ask you to drink plenty of additional water, eat a good meal before you come and always bring your photo ID,” Cody said.

Holidays and summer time cut down on donations, but increase the need for blood, Cody said.

“We did over the past weekend, one hospital received 65 units of our O positive blood, which that depletes a good portion of the supply, then we need to get it, process it and send it right back out, so we need it every day,” Cody said.

If you can’t make it to the community drive, the Blood Assurance center on Broad Street is open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. It’ll be open this Saturday morning.
