Cookeville Council To Vote On Parking Lot

Cookeville City Council will vote on a measure to increase downtown parking at its regular meeting Thursday.

Mayor Ricky Shelton said the city approached the First Baptist Church about its empty gravel parking lot.

“We approached the church about partnering with us and being able to make that into a parking lot for some much needed downtown parking,” Shelton said.

If the vote is approved, the lot will provide 185 parking spaces nights, weekends and for special events. Through the week, the church and SAIC will have dedicated spaces in the lot.

The Cookeville City Council meets at 5:30 p.m. Thursday at city hall.
