A Putnam County nonprofit organization will be delivering meals to students over the summer.
Ashley Swan heads up the Food to the Rescue Program, which seeks to provide nutritious food for students in need.
“A lot of kids lose their free and reduced lunch during the summer,” Swan said. “Putnam County Food Services provides food during the summer, but a lot of kids don’t have reliable transportation to get there. That’s when a realized there was a need for someone to be able to get food to these kids.”
Swan and a number of volunteers will be using their personal vehicles to deliver food to students who don’t have transportation this summer. They plan to serve the Baxter area about one day a week starting out.
