BOE Releases $89.7 Million Budget

The Putnam County Board of Education approved the first draft of the upcoming year’s budget.

The budget lists $89.7 million in needs, from raises for certified and non-certified personnel, to buses and equipment.

But the BOE’s revenues won’t be able to cover that amount. Director of Schools Jerry Boyd said the budget has a $4.5 million gap.

“The gap between that is a negative gap and it’s $4.5 million where we stand right now. Now that could change, we don’t have the final revenue from the state,” Boyd said.

Boyd said the first draft of previous budgets also included a shortfall.

The first draft of the budget was submitted to Putnam Executive Randy Porter’s office Friday. There’s no word yet on when Boyd will discuss the budget with the Putnam County Commission.
