A Cookeville mobile home park will soon be redeveloped.
The Cookeville City Council approved Thursday night a Redevelopment Area Overlay zoning for the park located on Free Hill Road.
A developer will be building a 52-lot single family detached development for low-to-moderate income families.
“This is something we thought very highly of in the Planning Commission,” council member and planning commission member Jim Woodford said. “That somebody would take some property that has seen its better days and want to redevelop it and change the neighborhood. Also the affordable housing, to have single family housing that people can afford in our city.”
City Planning Director James Mills said the construction of the homes will take place in two phases. The first phase will involve the construction of 27 homes, which should get underway later this year.
The RAO zoning proposal still needs second reading approval.
