Twin Lakes Catfish Farm will end its 23-year run of catfish and all the fixins.
Twin Lakes Co-Owner Greta Hurst said the family decided to cut back as family members did not have enough time to run the business. Hurst said the family’s children are not interested in continuing the business. She said working other full-time jobs while managing the business has taken its toll on the family.
“That makes you tired sometimes after you have been working two and three full-time jobs for 23 years,” Hurst said. “So we just decided it’s time to cut back and focus more on some family time.”
Hurst said the family will keep the campground aspect of the business running and will only be shutting down the restaurant and pay lakes. Hurst said it was a tough decision for a portion of the family business.
“Lots of time and prayer went into reaching this decision,” Hurst said. “It was not made lightly or made in haste at all.”
Hurst said the family has spent four generations in Baxter and has enjoyed every second of it. Hurst said the family has reflected on their time in Baxter.
“We are excited for new things,” Hurst said. “I know we will miss our customers. People that you served and visited for years that are like family now, so we are gonna miss that.”
Greta said since the decision to shut down has been made public a few restaurant owners have reached out about opening a restaurant on the campground. Greta said the family is currently considering that possibility but a decision has not yet been made.
