Rotary Selling Mark Twain Park Ornaments

Mark Twain Park featured on this year’s Jamestown Rotary Club Christmas ornament.

The Jamestown Rotary Club has done a different Christmas ornament for the last eight years. Jamestown Rotary Club Secretary Kara Brannon said the ornament follows up on improvements the park received from the Rotary Club and several other organizations.

“The Rotary Club put up a new sign for Mark Twain Park and we also redid the historic Mark Twain Spring,” Brannon said. “We put a new roof on it, so we just felt that was our project for the year so we just kind of wanted to highlight the work the community had done in the park.”

Brannon said people can place an order now as they expect to receive the ornaments sometime in early December. Brannon said the ornaments are $20 and the funds will go back into the community.

“We use those for community projects that we do throughout the year,” Brannon said. “Also it helps support our literacy program. We do dictionary projects for all the Fentress County third graders.”

Brannon said the club tries to make special ornaments that Jamestown residents would enjoy.

“Each year our goal is to create a unique ornament in our series that preserves some aspect of our town, downtown, community, or county history,” Brannon said.

Brannon said she hopes people will add the ornament to a collection that represents the community. Brannon said the park has been a nice addition to Jamestown and is big part of the community.

“It is really nice to drive by and see people actually using the park, using the picnic tables, and enjoying the pretty weather,” Brannon said. “So it’s just become just kind of a central location for people to enjoy.”
