A formalized plan to expand Cane Creek Park will increase the size of the Cookeville park by some ten percent.
Leisure Services Director Rick Woods said the final expansion plans should be complete and in the bidding process by the end of the year. Woods said they expect the project to be fully completed by February of 2026.
“The plan for the thirty-one plus acres includes a new parking lot with new access road from the existing park road, a new picnic pavilion, a new restroom facility, walking trails that connect to the existing park trails,” Woods said.
Cookeville Planning Commission approved the plan. Woods said they need approval from commission as part of the Local Parks and Recreation Funds Grant supporting the project.
“This is a $1.125 million project total,” Woods said. “That’s what it was initially projected to be and so our portion of that is $562,500, which is a fifty-fifty grant, but our purchase price of the property applies to part of our match as well.”
Woods said this is an exciting expansion as the project has been part of the city’s plans for the park since 2015.
“There are several future enhancements that we have planned for this but are not a part of this original phase and not a part of this grant,” Woods said.
