Bulldogs Not Overlooking Trousdale In Week 10

Clay County Bulldogs head coach Bruce Lamb said Trousdale County has looked better each week, making Friday night’s matchup with the Yellow Jackets a tough match-up.

This season, the Bulldogs have gone 6-2, while the rebuilding Yellowjackets are 1-7. Earlier this season, Trousdale County switched to a wing-t offense and Lamb said he has been impressed with how quickly they have adopted the scheme.

“It’s a very difficult offense to defend and Trousdale’s getting better at it when I watch them on film,” Lamb said. “They’re getting better each week at it, so it’s going to make it tough on us. Hopefully our kids are disciplined enough to stay where they need to be.”

This season the Bulldogs have defended well against the run and have held teams to just 13 points a game. Lamb said the defensive success can be attributed to the program’s attention to the basics of football.

“We’ll have tackle drills throughout the practices,” Lamb said. “And there’s a couple things we do and we have gotten better at not letting people break tackles. And we kind of swarm to the ball and that’s been a big thing that we’ve been trying to do throughout the year.”

Lamb said a lot of the credit for the defenses’ performances need to go to defensive coordinator Mike Dickerson. This season the Bulldogs have held two teams scoreless and are coming off of a 49-0 win over Red Boiling Springs in the battle of the bulldogs.

With just two more regular season games, Lamb said Trousdale County and Gordonsville will be back to back tough games. He noted it would be unwise to overlook Trousdale County due to their record.

“I think our kids have gotten better each week,” Lamb said. “They got their heads on straight right now and I think we are playing our best football. The Trousdale team, their record does not show it, but they’re well coached and have some good athletes.”

Clay County takes on Trousdale County this Friday in Celina. Kickoff at 7pm.
