Tech Soccer Goes For Season Title

Tennessee Tech soccer plays Lindenwood Sunday in the final regular season game, with a third straight OVC regular-season championship on the line.

After starting the season 0-7-4, the Golden Eagles have soared to a 5-1-1 conference record ahead of their final game with Lindenwood. Head coach Corey Boyd said the regular-season title will be decided by the midfield.

“I would say that us and them are probably the two best attacking teams in the league,” Boyd said. “So, I think that’s ultimately what it comes down to. I think they have a really nice balance, they’re well organized and they don’t give a lot of goals away. They’re tough, it won’t be an easy game by any stretch.”

Boyd said that the team needs to be focused and treat this like a championship game, so the team will not have a day off this week.

“We’ve got to make sure that we defend well, but we also take our chances when they arrive for us,” Boyd said. “Because I think we will get chances and we do that pretty well. But it’s about being focused.”

Lindenwood comes into Sunday’s game with an 8-4-4 record and a 4-0-4 conference record. While they are undefeated at home, the Lions have struggled on the road going 3-3-2.

Boyd said playing this game at home will be a factor for the Golden Eagles.

“I told our girls ‘we’re writing a story here, this whole year we’ve been trying to write a story and we get to decide how that story ends’,” Boyd said. “I can’t really sum that up anymore because more so now than ever we get to decide how our story ends at home, at our place against another team who is competing to win it as well.”
