Livingston Academy Girls Soccer team will face a familiar foe, Franklin County, in the regional finals Thursday.
Head coach Heather Marshall said the 3-2 overtime win over Tullahoma, was Livingston’s best performance of the season. Marshall said there is no time to dwell on their win.
“We’re anticipating a high physicality match tomorrow,” Marshall said. “Their midfield is very solid, but we think if we can get through their midfield, our offense can beat their defense. And so, it’s going to be a battle of the midfields tomorrow.”
Marshall has every right to be confident in her offense as this season the Wildcats have outscored opponents 74-12 and is currently on a 12-game win streak. LA’s last loss came at the hands of Franklin County.
“Our midfield has changed since they played us last, so I look forward to the new match-up because I don’t think they’ll be ready for that,” Marshall said. “I think our midfield is stronger than it was last time we played them and so we’re going to match up a little better and be able to win those 50/50 balls.”
The August loss to Franklin County marked a turning point in the season. The majority of LA players limped away from that game a little banged up and the team even lost a senior starter for the season in that game.
“We’re playing great soccer right now, so when we watch film it’s kind of just the coaches nitpicking being ‘this was good, but how do we make it great?’,” Marshall said. “And so those are the small adjustments we are going to hopefully make for tomorrow and the game on Saturday.”
