Crossville Church Cooking Meals In Western NC

Crossville’s Simple Life Church began cooking meals for those severely impacted by Hurricane Helene in Marshall, NC.

Lead Pastor Hank Jones said the church served free meals to around 500 people on the first day, after arriving Tuesday. Jones said many of the residents are traumatized and are in desperate need of help.

“What it means to us is we bring a little bit of hope and a little bit of sunshine just through a hot meal,” Jones said. “That people are struggling to have any part of so we are just real thankful that we get to do it.”

Jones said the church has a cooking trailer that is powered by a generator and it allows them to reach areas that some other organizations are unable to reach. Jones said being able to provide cooked meals to people affected by the flood has been an emotional experience.

“Our team was overwhelmed yesterday,” Jones said. “They just said people just stood there and they couldn’t believe that somebody fixed them a hot meal. One guy said he hadn’t had a hot breakfast in several weeks now.

Jones said the church plans to continue to provide hot meals until October 25th. Jones said after the 25th the church will take a break and reevaluate.

“We will do a reassessment with the authorities that are in that area and if they need us back we will crank back up,” Jones said.

Jones said the area the church is providing for has been told by authorities that the area would not have water or power until after Thanksgiving.
