Pickett Theatre Premiering Ghost Stories

Byrdstown’s Good Neighbors Theatre getting the community in the Halloween spirit, premiering a new production all about ghost stories this weekend.

The play will contain stories from a book called Appalachian Ghost Stories which feature folklore stories based out of Eastern Kentucky. Good Neighbors Theatre Secretary Susanne Steinhour said the theatre felt it was the perfect time to premier the play just weeks before Halloween.

“They are not going to give you nightmares at night,” Steinhour said. “They are just four short stories all woven together and I think it’s family entertainment because there are some fun and funny parts and of course the eerie ghostly part.”

Steinhour said part of the cast consists of people from Kentucky and some residents who live in Byrdstown. Steinhour said those who attend the play will get to learn about their family’s past and see stories that were passed down from previous generations.

“This is a very common thing in the Appalachian foothill and has been going on for generations,” Steinhour said. “So this is an opportunity for us to pass along some of that history from this particular area.”

Steinhour said the author of the book Jerry Deaton will be in attendance on Sunday. Steinhour said the local cast is excited to perform the play in front of him.

“We really enjoy performing in front of the person that wrote the play,” Steinhour said. “I think it’s an important thing for us and I hope it’s a thing the author really enjoys seeing his work performed and performed well.”

The theatre will perform each night through Saturday, beginning at 7pm. Sunday’s show begins at 2pm. Tickets are available at the Byrdstown Welcome Center. For more information visit the Good Neighbors Theatre Facebook page. Steinhour said get your tickets now as seating is limited.
